Special advantages of AFM® (Activated Filter Media)
1. AFM® grade 0 can filter fine sediments larger than 1 micron (001 mm) and can filter down to 0.1 micron when used together with APF® (Flocculation Fluid). (Flocculation) and accelerate sedimentation. (Coagulation))
3. AFM® is made of glass, using approximately 90 – 95% green glass (Pure Green Glass) which contains high iron oxides (Metal Oxides) capable of generating free radicals (Free Radical) to create high Redox potential that is effective in eliminating bacteria and viruses with (Self-Sterilizing) is an environmentally friendly filter.
- Green glass contains manganese and chromium oxide and helps to absorb heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium and lead in water and pool water.
- Amber glass contains aluminum or ferric oxide and aids in the adsorption of heavy metals such as copper, cadmium, nickel and lead in water.
- Negative ions (Cationic), which helps to accelerate the precipitation (Coagulants) of steel, aluminum.
- Positive ions (Anionic), which helps in coagulation. (Flocculants) of steel and aluminum
5. Surface of AFM® has a high negative charge potential, which helps in the adsorption of heavy metals and organic matter in water and pool waterwith a positive charge potential. It is also an oxidizer, so the AFM® surface is kept clean because it is free from bacteria. Preventing the occurrence of Trichloramine, can reduce THMs by 50 – 90%.
6. AFM® can kill bacteria. Cyanobacteria, Diatoms and Legionella, which are sources for biofilm formation.
7. AFM® Grade 0, when combined with APF®, can filter Vibrio Cholera bacteria (3 micron), parasites such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia.
- Cryptosporidium is a parasitic or protozoan of the Coccidia type, approximately 5 microns in size, living in the intestinal tract, causing diarrhea.
- Vibrio Cholerae is a bacterium that causes cholera or hemorrhoids.
- Giardiasis is a type of protozoa. When it enters the body, it causes an infection in the small intestine and can become acute and chronic diarrhea
9. Phosphates come in three forms:
- Phosphate in organic form found in plankton, algae, and bacterial forms
- Phosphate in inorganic form or in solid form, known as phosphorus
- Soluble phosphate is called Ortho-phosphate
- Water purification to a resolution of less than 1 micron or the use of AFM® with APF® can remove both organic particulate phosphate. and more than 95% inorganic. AFM directly adsorbs soluble orthophosphate PO4 2- solution. In a layer known as the AFM stern layer, AFM® has low adsorption capacity, but sufficient for adsorption. After Ferric, Lanthanum or Magnesium is precipitated (Fe3+)2(PO42-)3 Mg2+NH4+PO42- ) and these substances are discarded from the filter tank by the backwash process, there is no accumulation of germs, bacteria and metal. Heavy on the filter grains like sand or other heavy metal filters.
15. Can filter pool water turbidity to less than 0.05 NTU and reduce TSS (Total Suspended Solid) by more than 90%
17. AFM® can remove more than 95% Ferric, more than 80% Manganese, more than 90% Arsenic, TBT (tributyltin), Copper, Mercury and PCB`s Works effluent (AFM® filtration to remove the suspended metal oxide solids, there will also be adsorption reactions and surface oxidation reactions.)
- Transforms from aqueous solution form to insoluble form (Co-precipitation reactions – accelerating sedimentation) to be removed from the filter tank by backwash process.
- Iron changes from Fe2+ (Ferrous – Ferrous) to Fe3+ (Ferric – Ferric)
- Manganese change from Mn2+ to Mn4+
- Arsenic change from AS3+ to AS5+
- AFM® has been tested for water purification efficiency by the ECO-India project and FP7 research project in arsenic removal. Comparative test results show that it is more effective than High quality silica sand filters
Bacteria that are organic substances in water need oxygen (Aerobic bacteria) to decompose inorganic substances. The oxygen demand of these bacteria decreases the dissolved oxygen content in the water. Therefore, clean water has a high DO value (Dissolved Oxygen) and waste water has a low DO value.
BOD (Biochemical Oxygen demand) is the amount of oxygen that microorganisms use to break down organic matter in water.
- Water with a BOD greater than 100 is waste water and if the water has a BOD < 100 mg/l it is bile.
- Water with a high BOD indicates a high content of organic matter. Microorganisms need O2 to break down those organic compounds.
- Water with a low BOD indicates a low organic content. Microorganisms need O2 to break down those organic compounds.
20. AFM® and ACO® can help remove nitrogen from swimming pools and fish ponds. AFM® filters out organic matter and filters out bacteria, and ACO® converts organic nitrogen to nitrogen gas, for gas to evaporate into the atmosphere
- Oxidation potential (eV), oxidation potential
- Fluorine (F) 2.87
- Hydroxyl radical (OH) 2.86
- Oxygen atom (O) 2.42
- Ozone (O3) 2.07
- Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) 1.78
- Chlorine (Cl) 1.36
- Oxygen molecule (O2) 1.23
Nitrogen is an essential trace element for plants which will be in the form of Ammonia – nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, if the water contains a high nitrogen content. It will make aquatic plants grow rapidly
Plants can synthesize nitrogen-containing organic matter. Animals, when eating plants, excrete nitrogen in organic form. Microorganisms convert nitrogen into inorganic substances, such as ammonia, we call this cycle as Ammonification. The other ammonia is oxidized by Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria to Nitrite and Nitrate respectively under
